Mr. Jørgen Jørgensen was appointed EHU Acting Rector in September 2016. Before that, he served as Administrative director at the Aarhus University, Denmark’s second largest university.

Mr. Jørgensen’s professional background lies in the area of ministerial work at the Danish Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of the Interior and Health, where he has served in different capacities during a significant number of meetings on European Union, United Nations, and World Health Organization levels. During that time Mr. Jørgensen also served as personal secretary to four cabinet ministers in aforementioned ministries.

After fulfilling his career in the area of financial control of Copenhagen city municipality, for over 20 years Mr. Jørgensen served as Chief Executive Officer at Denmark’s leading hospitals, including Bispebjerg Hospital and Rigshospitalet, being responsible for implementation of structural, financial and organizational reforms not least due to a strict budget policy and a consistent growth of the research budget.

Given his outstanding managerial expertise and financial discipline, Mr. Jørgensen has also served as Administrative director at the Aarhus University, carrying out organizational changes as a result of University and its staff mergers.

Mr. Jørgensen сhairs the Board of the Statens Serum Institut (Danish Center for Disease Control), and Chairman of the Red Cross division in Hørsholm municipality. He is also Program Manager for Danish Program for Clinical Research Infrastructure.
Mr. Jørgensen earned his Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen. He went on to complete the European Health Leadership Program at France’s prestigious business school INSEAD.

Married, has three children and four grandchildren.
