EHU’s Online Graduate School English Language Admissions Examination

The European Humanities University’s (EHU) Graduate School English language admissions examination is an online test that includes the following three parts: reading, listening, and word usage plus grammar. Applicants have a total of 100 minutes to complete the test.

The online test is quite similar to the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). A demo version of the online examination along with step-by-step registration instructions and other materials are accessible here.

The purpose of the exam is to evaluate applicants’ preparedness and capability to use the English language as a tool in their academic activities: writing reviews and research papers, listening and understanding lectures in English, participating in the seminars of visiting professors, the majority of whom are English language speakers, and the like. The English language level required for an applicant to pass the examination is Intermediate/Upper-Intermediate.

The online exam is graded using a 10-point grading system (the national standard in Lithuania) based on the number of points earned (100 being a perfect score) in the following way:

Pass/Fail Points Earned Grade According to Lithuanian National Standard Definition According to ECTS
Pass 96-100 10 Excellent: outstanding performance with only minor errors
86-95 9
79-85 8 Very good: above average, but with some errors
70-78 7 Good: generally sound work with a number of notable errors
56-69 6 Satisfactory: fair, but with significant shortcomings
50-55 5 Sufficient: performance meets minimum criteria
Fail 39-49 4 Fail: some further work required
30-38 3
20-29 2 Fail: considerable further work required
0-19 1

Graduates of EHU’s undergraduate programs who have passed their final English language examination with a grade of 8 or higher are not required to take the online English language examination to be admitted to EHU’s Graduate School.

If EHU or other graduates have an international language certificate they are also exempt from the examination requirement. Their test scores will be converted into the 10-point Lithuanian standard and considered equivalent to the results of EHU’s online exam.

Every applicant has the right to take EHU’s online exam in case he or she wishes to attempt to achieve a higher grade than the one based on a previous test score. The following is a grade conversion table for various other English language tests.
